CFP: Staging Superstitions

We are soliciting proposals for a collection of critical articles on the representation of supernatural imaginings, staged superstitions, and enacted witchcraft and apparitions in the theaters of early modern Europe.
While the focus of this collection of essays lies with dramatic literature, we seek to analyze literary interactions between fictional and allegedly non-fictional literatures and to engage cross-disciplinary approaches that consider literatures in the context of historical, political, legal, and social analyses.
Some of the literary texts that we hope to explore in the context of early modern drama include:
pamphlets and ephemera
legal treatises and decrees
anthologies and compendia
sermons and homilies
Please send 750-word abstracts by Nov. 15th to the collection editor, Verena Theile, at theile_at_gonzaga.edu. Abstracts should be attached in WORD or RTF format and include a 150-word biographical sketch or cv.
